I often make up art projects from a very succinct idea.

The original concept is quite often a mere few words long.

This one stems from the usual frustration every artist, whether professional or amateur, has one day felt:

“Why doesn’t my work reach more people?

Ah, wouldn’t it be great if I made art for just one spectator?

Then I would have reached everyone the art was intended to.”

Okay.

Maybe only the underlying feeling is common.

But I stand by my initial gut feeling: if you were to make a piece of work for one spectator only, and then approached this unsuspecting spectator with clumsy rhetoric so they’d have to look at it, and even maybe comment on it, then maybe, maybe this would somehow make the art sharing process… simpler?

Maybe the process would then be stripped of all the marketing, self-selling, weird pandering and ill-fitting dances one has to do to actually show one’s art?

Wouldn’t it be the most distilled expression of what creation really is?

The modern equivalent of the handprint made with charcoal powder on cavern walls by past humans?

“No, no it wouldn’t” I pondered.

“But I’m gonna do it anyway.”
